Roush expands 2013 lineup with V6-powered RS Mustang

type='html'>

Roush Performance is excited to introduce a new offering for the 2013 Ford Mustang V6. All new for the Roush Mustang lineup is the Roush RS or “Roush Six” package.  The Roush RS is based on the 3.7L-V6 Ford Mustang and receives an array of Roush engineered styling and handling components.  Gary Jurick, General Manager of Roush Performance, states “The RS opens a new niche for Roush Performance, offering great fuel economy, a good level of power, at an economical price, while still embodying Roush’s spirit of performance.”  The RS package starts at $4,000, pushes out 305 horsepower and gets up to 31 mpg highway.
Chassis improvements for the Roush RS Mustang include 19″ premium painted aluminum wheels and tires, the same wheels and tires found on the factory Ford Mustang GT with Brembo brakes, and Roush lowering springs with progressive rate jounce bumper which will lower the car approximately one inch in the front and rear, thus reducing the car’s center of gravity and providing quicker steering response and a better feel of the road.  Enhancements to the RS body incorporate many of the R6 aerobody components featured on the Roush Stage vehicles including the high flow upper and lower grilles, front chin splitter, side rocker splitters and rear decklid spoiler.
The Roush RS Mustang comes with the distinct “R” fender badges and the “R” Roush faux gas cap. Also on display is the Roush windshield banner.  Optional hood scoop, rear quarter window louvers, RS exterior side and hood graphics are also available.
Interior Roush RS Mustang upgrades include Roush embroidered floor mats, billet performance pedals and a Roush center console badge/button.  Optional RS interior upgrades include GT charcoal leather seating or Roush sport leather seating along with white or black shifter ball and the suede wrapped performance steering wheel. Roush door sill plates are available with ambient lighting.
“We (Roush) are excited to offer a Roush package for all levels of the Ford Mustang line up,” says Tim Wheeler, VP, Sales and Marketing of Roush Performance. “The RS will address the Mustang V6 owner that is looking for the Roush touch off the showroom floor.” Great fuel economy, great price point, great fun, the Roush RS Mustang.

Modified Shelby GT500 Super Snake does 220 mph in the standing mile

type='html'>

With the ever-increasing horsepower limits of modern cars the standing mile has recently become the new benchmark in straight line performance. Incredibly, many highly modified cars including the Ford GT have achieved more than 250 mph in the standing start test.

While perhaps not as fast as the more expensive supercars, several Ford Mustangs have put down some pretty impressive numbers in the standing mile. Earlier this year the twin-turbo 2011 Mustang project of Ken Bjonnes, Jon Lund and Jake Long did more than 206 mph at the Texas Mile, and Creations ‘n Chrome’s SEMA Boy Racer Mustang achieved an impressive 182 mph at the Mojave Mile a few months later – not bad for a show car.

The king of Mustangs when it comes to the standing mile, however, is this 2007 Shelby GT500 Super Snake built by Revan Racing. Powered by a fully built 5.8L V8 from L&M Engines fitted with a Kenne Bell 3.6L liquid-cooled supercharger system, the Shelby reached an incredible 220.8 mph at the Texas Mile event late last month. As far as we know, that makes it the world’s fastest street legal Mustang.

HPI releases 1969 Ford Mustang RTR-X remote control car

Two sets of Work Meister S1 wheels are included, one set for Drift with pre-mounted HPI T-Drifts and another set for Grip with pre-mounted HPI X-Patterns! The body comes completely trimmed, decaled and mounted. The finished kit perfectly captures the essence of the RTR-X in 1/10th scale with it’s timeless looks and awesome performance.You can also customize the Sprint 2 Sport chassis with any of the clear or pre-painted polycarbonate body shells from the huge assortment of HPI bodies and option wheels/tires!

Most powerful Coyote 5.0L V8

type='html'>

Modular Mustang Racing of Camarillo, CA has long been at the forefront of pushing the factory Ford engines to the limit. The company’s 2010 Mustang 10.5 Outlaw race car, powered by a twin-turbocharged version of the Shelby GT500′s 5.4-liter V8, could do quarter mile passes below seven seconds at well over 200 mph. Recently, though, MMR swapped out that engine for a Coyote 5.0L unit, and despite having a lower displacement, the new powerplant isn’t short on horsepower. MMR owner Mark Luton (who also happens to drive the car) tell us that the engine makes an incredible 2,138 horsepower. That makes this engine the most powerful Coyote V8 in the world.

So how does one go about building a 2,000+ horsepower V8? MMR starts with the stock aluminum block and stuffs it with forged Manley M2500 pistons and billet connecting rods, a Cryo-treated and race-prepped Boss 302 crankshaft and custom turbo camshafts. MMR also adds a set of Stage 3R ported Boss 302 heads and their own Roadrunner intake manifold paired with an Accufab 105mm throttle body, all fed by a pair of massive Garrett 80mm GT4508X turbochargers.

The combination has proven to be just as fast as the previous setup, the Luton recently piloting the car to a 7.02 second pass at 202.55 mph at the NMCA West Finals last month. Scroll down below to watch a video of the run or check out the engine in detail in the photo gallery.

2013 Saleen 351 Mustang announced at LA Auto Show

type='html'>

Hot on the heels of Steve Saleen regaining his namesake brand comes the first model announcement since the news was released. Making his announcement at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the well known man of Mustangs announced the Saleen 351 Mustang.
“Since regaining the Saleen brand, I really want to bring it all together with the heritage that Saleen is known for”, said Steve Saleen. “With the current Saleen [302] Mustang model it provides all the right features to bring back and update the S351 model.”
After nearly 13 years since a Saleen production vehicle has been powered by a 351 c.i.d. powerplant, this new model debut has an exciting list of technological and design offerings under the Saleen 351 model name.
Power
The most notable component in the 351 is the Saleen engineered 351 cubic inch V8 engine which will produce 700 hp and 655 ft-lb of torque when paired with the Saleen 296 supercharger system.
“Everything about this project has been mindful of the goal to create the most potent Mustang on the market”, said Al Wagner, V.P. of Engineering. “I think we have certainly pushed the bar in the production Mustang segment with our 351 offering. Once the project came together I couldn’t help but thinking; if the 302 mustang is using a coyote engine, the 351 is definitely the gray wolf of the class.”
Transferring all of that power requires the use of some specialized equipment as well. The Saleen 351 will utilize a 6-speed transmission equipped with a high performance Saleen clutch system, and a 3.73:1 final drive ratio to ensure that the power will be where its most required, on the ground.
Brakes, Wheels and Tires
Working in conjunction to the wheel, tire, and Saleen S4 suspension are the Saleen 15” brake package which are a well-placed component of this 700 hp Saleen vehicle. “A multi-piston brake caliper setup is critical to a high performance vehicle of this caliber”, added Wagner. “The amount of power that this vehicle can deliver is astounding and needed to have a well composed counterpart allowing it comparable stopping power.”
Rounding out the performance system on the 351 are the Saleen 5-spoke alloy wheels wrapped with high performance tires. Setup in a staggered formation of 20×9 front and 20×10 rear, the slalom performance times and corning capabilities are set to be on-par with levels approaching those of pure bred racecars.
Design
Building on the design elements from the Saleen 302 Mustang, the 351 will feature the Red Butterfly Center Ram Air Induction system which has become a signature of the Saleen brand. A truly functional system, the Red Butterfly hood allows cold air to intake through the butterfly scoop design as they open-up under throttle. Once the air passes through the butterfly openings it is directed through the engine compartment to the 351’s powerplant where it becomes a tributary to the air intake system. Additional design components include full carbon fiber front and side splitters, as well as a carbon fiber rear diffuser which houses the F-1 style tail lamp. A complete treatment of Saleen 351 badging and graphics will also be included to complement any one of the standard or custom Saleen paint schemes available on all Saleen vehicles.
